The severe winter weather system that swept across REMC’s five-county region on Jan. 9 and 10 left behind a wake of power outages In total, more than 6,984 member-owners were affected over the duration of the storm. Some members were affected multiple times due to the sustained high winds.

REMC Completes Restoration from Winter Storm Elliott's Damage

By Friday evening at 7:22 pm, REMC crews had restored power to all members following damage resulting from the impacts of Winter Storm Elliott. The artic storm created outages across REMC's five-county service area, triggering dramatic temperature drops and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

1. Watch the thermostat.

Keep it at 68 degrees when you are at home and even lower when you are away for an extended time. A consistently low temperature setting will avoid overworking your heater. Extreme weather conditions cause HVAC systems to work harder, which leads to higher energy consumption and costs, so it’s more cost effective to bundle up instead of turning the thermostat up.
