REMC Restores Power to all Members Affected by Transmission Line Failure
Update: 6:15 p.m.
This evening, REMC has restored power to all member-owners affected by the Duke transmission line outage. The failure of the transmission line had de-energized REMC's distribution lines earlier this afternoon. Over 5,000 member-owners, and the REMC Robbins District office, lost power in this event.
Randolph Electric's engineers mobilized a plan to backfeed electricity through our distribution lines. We anticipate that when Duke Energy restores their transmission line, the process should be seamless for REMC members.
Transmission Line Outage Affecting REMC Members
Update: Jan. 9, 3:45 p.m.
Asheboro, NC – On Thursday afternoon at 2:40 p.m., Randolph Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) learned of a Duke Energy transmission line failure affecting over 5,000 of REMC’s members in parts of Moore, Chatham and Randolph counties.
Outages have impacted at least 5,400 members in the Robbins and Bear Creek areas of our service territory.
REMC engineers worked immediately to re-route power to as many members as possible. As of 3:45 p.m., REMC had restored power to over 900 members.
The transmission line failure means that REMC distribution lines cannot provide power through normal delivery processes. We will pursue every avenue to resolve this situation as quickly and effectively as possible. REMC continues to work with Duke Energy to understand the estimated time of restoration. Currently, Duke has signaled that they anticipate an outage of undetermined length.
We appreciate the patience of our members during this unexpected event.
