REMC Cancels Drive Electric Event at NC Zoo

On Friday, September 30, from 9 am to noon at the North Carolina Zoo, Randolph Electric Membership Corporation had planned a public education event showcasing electric vehicles. As in past years, the event would have taken place during National Drive Electric Week, which is September 23 to October 2, 2022.

Because of anticipated adverse weather conditions from Hurricane Ian, Randolph EMC and the North Carolina Zoo regrettably must cancel this open-air event.

“It’s unfortunate to have to cancel such a fun opportunity for public engagement, especially since last year’s event far exceeded our expectations,” said REMC’s Director of Innovative Energy Solutions Michael Trent. “However, as Hurricane Ian bears down on the southeast United States, Randolph Electric is monitoring the storm and stands ready to respond to any potential storm effects.”

“We appreciate the planned participation from elected officials, car dealerships and volunteers,” said Zoo Director of Communication and Marketing Diane Villa. “Due to inclement weather, the North Carolina Zoo must close its doors to the public from September 30 through at least October 1 as we prepare to protect our animal population from the approaching storm.”
