Lineman and Long-time United Way Donor Jeff Harris Wins Car Giveaway
The 2025 fundraising campaign for the United Way of Randolph County culminated on Thursday night, Dec. 19, at Asheboro Nissan, where 10 finalists from various local companies met to select keys to a 2024 white Nissan sedan. All finalists had pledged at least $100 to the 2025 fundraising campaign. Only one lucky finalist held the key to unlock the car.
REMC Journeyman Lineman Jeff Harris, along with the nine other contestants, took turns selecting a key at random. After the first three contestants unsuccessfully attempted to open the car door, Jeff approached the car with his key. He was shocked that his key fit the lock, then turned to open the driver’s side door.
Jeff has worked at REMC for 36 years, and February 2025 will mark his 37th anniversary. As a Caring Share donor, Jeff donates one hour’s pay per month to the United Way. Many employees at REMC share this distinction.
Randolph EMC has participated in United Way campaigns since 1991, a 33-year history. Jeff recalls that his giving began around that time. Because of this, the United Way considers him the highest level of donor. Diamond Donors have contributed to the United Way for 20 years or more.
Although REMC has produced car finalists in the past, the company has never had a car winner.
Commenting on her co-worker’s successful effort, Member Services Team Lead Beth Richardson said, “It could not have happened to a nicer person.” Beth is also a Diamond Donor and was the car finalist for REMC in 2021.
“Randolph Electric provides good jobs,” said Jeff. “I’m thankful I work at a place that allows me to give back. It’s important to support your community.”
For the 2025 campaign, REMC’s employee team raised over $28,000 for United Way agencies. This is almost $1,000 more than the previous year, and the highest total that the company has ever pledged.
REMC appreciates Jeff’s outstanding example of giving back to the communities we serve.
