2021 Election

Each year, your vote in our Board of Directors election is your voice in your cooperative, a chance to have a say on leaders who will represent you and your interests. Elected directors serve three-year terms and are elected at the Annual Meeting. This year, Randolph EMC members will elect Directors representing Districts 5, 8 and 9.

As COVID-19 conditions persist, the Board of Directors determined that this year’s meeting will again be held virtually. To accommodate this year’s circumstances, the Board of Directors approved emergency Bylaws that will expire at the conclusion of this year’s Annual Meeting, which will be held June 18, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. The Emergency Bylaws address any changes resulting from a virtual format, but provide the same avenues as previous years for members interested in running for the Board.

To be fiscally responsible, the board also made a change in this year’s Director election process. In the case of an uncontested election the Credentials and Election Committee, which is comprised solely of REMC members, will elect the sitting Directors by acclamation. Election by acclamation is the process typically used at our in-person Annual Meetings. This decision was made to save money on unnecessarily distributing ballots for an uncontested election. 

In the case of a contested election, the Credentials & Election Committee will work directly with an independent third party to conduct this year’s election in advance of the Annual Meeting. If this is the case, the 2021 Randolph EMC Board of Directors Election for Districts 5, 8 and 9 will begin on April 30, 2021 and end at 5 p.m. on June 4, 2021. 

Just like last year, instead of in-person voting, members will vote by mailing in a paper ballot or by casting their vote on a secure online site. When we have determined whether there will be a contested election, we will explain voting procedures over the next couple of months in Watts Working and on this webpage.

As in the past, prizes will be distributed for members who participate either by voting in a contested election or by registering for the meeting in the case of an uncontested election. We will furnish additional details about this in the next few months as well, so please stay tuned.    

 

Nomination & Election Process

 

Nomination Process

  • Members are nominated as director candidates in one of two ways:  1) by the 2021 Nominating Committee or 2) by Member Petition
  • The 2021 Nominating Committees will meet the evening of Thursday, March 18, at the Randolph EMC office in Asheboro.
  • If seeking nomination through the Nominating Committee, all completed required documentation must be submitted to Randolph EMC on or before March 18 at 5 p.m., prior to the committee’s meeting.
  • If seeking nomination through Member Petition, all completed required documentation and the original petition must be delivered by hand to either Randolph EMC office not later than 5:00 PM, on or before March 31, 2021.

 


 

Election Process

The Randolph EMC Board of Directors Election is independently administered by Survey and Ballot Systems (SBS). SBS is an independent third-party vendor that provides a highly secure voting process. SBS has helped plan and manage cooperative elections for nearly 30 years, helping to establish the standard for accurate and certified election results across the industry. The 2021 Credentials and Election Committee certifies the Randolph EMC Board of Directors Election results and makes the final decision concerning any election-related issues. March 18

Nominating Committee meetings will begin at 6 p.m. at the Randolph EMC office in Asheboro

March 19

Nominating Committee nominations are posted at Randolph EMC's offices and online

March 31

Member Petitions and required credentials must be delivered by hand to either Randolph EMC office not later than 5:00 PM ET on this date (nominations by petition will be posted after validation)

April 1

REMC determines whether there will be a contested or uncontested election

April 30

Voting opens for contested election

Registration opens for uncontested election

June 4

Voting closes for contested election

June 18

Results of the Randolph EMC Board of Directors Election will be announced at the Annual meeting
